Yuri Ganus is new RUSADA Director General

31.08
2017

A general meeting of RUSADA members approved the candidacy of Yury Ganus for the post of director general of the organization.

On August 31, a general meeting of RUSADA members took place at the Russian Olympic Committee,  with participation of the founders of the Agency – the Russian Olympic Committee and the Russian Paralympic Committee. The main point on the agenda was considering the candidacy of the new Director General nominated by RUSADA Supervisory. The participants unanimously approved Yuri Ganus as the Director General.

ALEXANDER IVLEV, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RAA RUSADA:

“The Commission on Selecting the candidacy of the Director General, has done an immense job. Many interviews were conducted, over 700 applications were reviewed, and 6 candidates were nominated for  consideration by the Supervisory Board. We unanimously approved the candidacy of Yuri Ganus, and then recommended Yuri Ganus to RUSADA founders for approval. Today we can congratulate Yuri Ganus on taking office. We are ready to support him in his activities”.

VLADIMIR LUKIN, Head of the Russian Paralympic Committee:

“The discussion at today’s meeting of the founders was informal and detailed. We came to conclusion that Yuri Ganus has all the qualities required for heading RUSADA’s work at this difficult and responsible period when maximum efforts are required to be taken for full reinstatement of the Agency as soon as possible, ensuring effective performance and cooperation with international organizations”.

ALEXANDER ZHUKOV, President of the Russian Olympic Committee:

“On behalf of the founders of RUSADA, I would like to wish Yuri Ganus successful and fruitful work.  The organizations will have an audit procedure soon, with auditors’ arrival expected at the end of September. The audit results will influence implementation of the main goal – full-fledged reinstatement of RUSADA so that the organization could perform its functions as required and do systemic organized work across Russia”.

YURI GANUS, Director General of RAA “RUSADA”:

“First of all, I would like to thank the founders of the organization for trust. As the main objectives, I consider  ensuring the admission of all Russian athletes and federations, as soon as possible, to participation in international competitions,  removing restrictions on  holding international events in Russia, integrating RUSADA operations in WADA international system, and in this regard, hopefully, my experience in communications with international organizations, will be of help. It is also necessary to enhance trust to the Russian anti-doping system in general, to ensure protection of our clean athletes and system mode of the Agency operations.  For this purpose, I will have meetings with the heads of the  all-Russian sport federations  and I plan to engage all the stakeholders in joint work.

For me, the new post is a challenge. As any concerned citizen of my country, I am very much concerned about what has been happening to Russian sport lately. When I was young, I practiced handball, not so long ago I was on the Board of “Soviet Sport” newspaper, so, the issues of sport have always been close to me. And, I believe that work in RUSADA can become work of my lifetime”.
