Anti-doping knowledge base: testing pools

An athlete may be included either in the testing pool of an International Sports Federation or in a national pool (in our country it is the pool of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency “RUSADA”). Upon inclusion in the relevant testing pool, the athlete will receive an official notification informing them about what information is required, when it is needed, and how to provide it in the ADAMS system.

There are several types of testing pools. For example, RUSADA may include an athlete in the national REGISTRATION pool or in the national EXPANDED pool.

All athletes in any testing program must provide information about their whereabouts on a daily basis, including their residence address, training location, study or work details, travel and flight information, and details of any competitions or other regular activities they participate in. This information should be updated quarterly and promptly if there are any changes in plans.

Athletes participating in the registration testing pool must specify a 60-minute interval (one-hour window) for each day (1 hour from 05:00 to 23:00 at the discretion of the athlete), during which they are guaranteed to be at the specified address and will be available for testing.

It's important to note that choosing a one-hour window does not mean that testing will only occur during that specific time. Any athlete in the registered pool may be tested at any time, regardless of the window they have chosen. The anti-doping organization has the right to decide when and where to test athletes.
